In May and June, more than 70 Kiddie Academy locations nationwide participated in Play Day for a Cause. This event brought families into the Academies for a couple of hours of educational fun and games while supporting worthy causes throughout our communities.
Using age-appropriate activities selected from the Play Day for a Cause Classroom Guide, Academies showcased both the Life Essentials® curriculum and our commitment to Character EssentialsSM by supporting charitable organizations such as our existing nonprofit partner, Family Promise, the nation’s leading nonprofit addressing the issue of family homelessness.
“Play Day for a Cause is an important way we put our values into action,” said Maria Dontas, Kiddie Academy Director of Corporate Social Responsibility. “By coupling a fun day of play with
a charitable element, we’re able to engage children and families while supporting Family Promise and other worthy causes in our communities.”
The event raised more than $2,000. While Family Promise was the largest beneficiary of Play Day for a Cause, it wasn’t the only organization to benefit. Academies also raised funds to support food banks, reading programs, animal shelters and health programs. In North Carolina, Kiddie Academy of Harrisburg chose to support the Children’s Alopecia Project, which helps children who are affected by the condition that causes a loss of hair. Meloney Whittle, Assistant Director, said, “The biggest reason we chose to support this charity is because one of our own has been diagnosed with alopecia. We felt that it would be a great way to show that Kiddie Academy of Harrisburg supports this family. It just felt right for us to choose this group as our charity so they can continue to reach out and help other children affected by alopecia.”
We offer our most sincere thanks to those who donated and to all the Academies that participated in Play Day for a Cause!
